IDEA Integrated Data For Events Analysis (Restricted to Emory Patrons Only) |

|
The Integrated Data for Events Analysis (IDEA) provides a range of social, economic and political events data parsed from the Reuters news database from 1989 to 2001. The data are gathered by the Virtual Research Associates. Coverage includes both domestic and international events. The VRA broadly defines "events" to include instances of conflict and cooperation (e.g. protests, sanctions and military attacks.) directed at both domestic and foreign targets. For further information on the data and the event typology, please visit the I.D.E.A. website. The interface provided here is for extracting smaller subsets of the larger dataset. The subsets of data are extracted into a .csv (comma separated) format. If you would like to download the entire dataset, it is available in MS Access format at the website of Professor Gary King at Harvard University. For a more complete list of variables and a detailed description of their coding, please see the Coding Manual. Please note that the original dataset is extremely large. | ||
